RV roof seals, Eternabond or lap sealant? A techs response.
Across all platforms, roof are probably my most talked about subject. Which makes sense because water damage is the number one destroyer of RVs, and the roof is usually where it’s getting in. I’m constantly reminding you guys to check your roof and stressing the importance of keeping up with your seals. Over the past year or so there was in influx of videos circulating “rv hacks” on your roof. These videos showed people using products like Eternabond or “roof tape” being used in place of lap sealant. Some going as far as saying to cover all of your seals on your entire roof with this stuff. These videos included bold claims that this tape was a “forever solution” to roof seals, and I’m he...

Is this RV upgrade worth it???
Просмотров 2,5 тыс.28 дней назад
When buying a used RV, you may come across some upgrades or modifications that were done by the previous owner. Sometimes, these can be great, and sometimes not. Here we’re looking at an inverter, lithium, and solar upgrade. An upgrade that the client thought was necessary, but quickly learned it wasn’t necessary when it failed. Not only did they not NEED this setup, it became a huge headache w...

To my TikTok followers, I apologize this video took a year to make, but better late than never right😊. Bearing repacks are probably one of the most important maintenance items. You can complete on your RV. Just like your seals, lack of bearing maintenance can lead to catastrophic failure. Being that I work on the service side of things, I understand all these different services can add up and s...
Is RV paint protection worth the money???
Просмотров 1 тыс.Месяц назад
When you buy an rv from a dealer, they’re always going to try and upsell you on some things. Some of them I’m actually fond of. I frequently talk about slide toppers, and vent covers, which are some of the things they will try and sell you on. Slide toppers and vent covers I definitely stand behind, paint protection, not so much. Paint protection is sold under a lot of different names, such as ...
The RVlock keyless entry, is it worth the hype??
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.Месяц назад
The topic of RV security has been a hot one for a while. It’s pretty common knowledge that the door locks from factory, aren’t exactly the greatest. They are flimsy and easy to defeat. Most modern RVs are also master keyed, meaning people (like me, a tech) have master keys to open your RV. While I personally find this helpful as a tech, I’d have to agree that I wouldn’t want MY unit keyed as so...

Does your RV really need a roof wash? Let’s talk about it.

So the dealer recommended a roof wash, and you want to know if it’s a gimmick? Well I’m here to answer that for you. Believe it or not it IS actually a service I recommend. Problem is you have alot of RV channels promoting it. RV Tips & Travels did a full roof eternabond 3 years ago and just did a review video 3 months ago. Alot of newer RVers see these videos and follow along.

I believe RV Tips & Travels has done an annual review of his Eternabond whole-roof installation and it has held up without issue. I'm guessing who installs it and how well the surface is prepped has a great deal to do with the success of the product. The installation on the pop-up in this video was horrible. Easy to cherry-pick.

I 100% agree. Of course if the internet says it’s good, clearly you must be wrong. 😂. Like the guy above, oh it’s great. I’ve never had a problem! --- YET! As a buyer of a used Rv, I stayed away from “Eternabonded” roofs for a simple reason…what are they hiding?? Of course, I too don’t want to remove that crap. But, I’d say EVENTUALLY it will be an issue. So, just do your inspections and leave the tape for emergencies.

Thanks for the video! Interesting points for sure. It’s always good to hear others perspective. I definitely respect your opinion and knowledge but I personally don’t think that properly applied Eternabond tape is any worse than Dicor sealant. I’m constantly shocked that product is still used. Dicor is a really bad product in my opinion. I’ve never seen it last more than a few years (I’m in Texas) whereas properly applied Eternabond will go 5 years plus without issue (again this is in Texas). Also the seal tape that Jayco used on the top of my slides definitely isn’t Eternabond but some cheap alternative. I would be willing to bet other manufacturers are also not using Eternabond on top of the slides but some cheaper version. Not saying it’s perfect or even better than a quality sealant. But I do wholeheartedly believe it is a better option than Dicor in certain situations, mainly at corners and not around curves.

    • @DavidJones-su9ob
      @DavidJones-su9ob День назад

I agree with your comments. He mentions REPLACING lap sealant with Eternabond but that is not what is recommended. Eternabond is to be applied OVER the lap sealant and it is recommended that your lap sealant be re-applied to fill in gaps BEFORE applying Eternabond. When I did my rig with Eternabond about 5 years ago, I applied fresh lap sealant where needed, let it cure for a few weeks, scrubbed and washed the roof to remove any debris, let it dry and THEN apply Eternabond. Over 5 years, it is holding up well with NO issues. No way would I use lap sealant alone. Sure, applying Eternabond is not the only solution to roof leaks but it works for me.

What a great video! I took away a few things from it. I was shocked to see that there is VERY LITTLE grease between the outer and inner bearing. That bearing driver is a great tool. I have one. Also as far as the unopened wheel bearing packer goes, my protip is to put it in a vise to squeeze it gently if needed. I usually use the CPR position on the floor to do them. Shouldn't one flush the "quick lube" fitting orifice before reinstalling the bearings? There might be blue grease or worse yet, dirty grease. Slip joint pliers can remove the grease cap by rocking gently too. Again! Thanks you for a great video from Nick's continuing RV education :-) Happy that the lucas grease is approved by Dexter. Rock on!

You are incorrect in your instructions, at least you didnt fully explain how to use the endless water heater. You set the temp controller to the hottest setting you want for the hottest demand. Washing dishes probably require hotter water than washing hands or taking a shower. If it’s set to 124 (in this video) to be the desired temp to wash dishes (no cold water would be added), taking a shower may require a (SLIGHT) crack of the cold water to get the desired temp….. adding cold water downstream of the heater (aka at the tap) would have ZERO effect on how hard the heater works! It’s only gonna work to get to 124 in this example. Now if people keep turning it up because they are adding cold water to reach the desired PRESSURE, thats a different topic. There is a learning curve to how tankless works but not thru misinformation.

I messed up and didn't get my tank valve open. and instead of coming out the roof like you mention at 4:30 it instead EXPLODED my grey tank (I had the black and grey tanks both open, but didn't have the valve at the hose connection open). Then I closed my grey tank, and immediately, the black tank exploded too! So I had to patch 2 tanks with steel mesh, a soldering iron, and abs glue made into a paste with abs shavings! Patch is holding strong 2 months later!
